Marbella combines a long coastal promenade, resort hotels, residential areas and a historic old town.
Terrain and getting around
Promenade sections are generally the easiest routes. The old town has narrower lanes, thresholds, polished paving and occasional gradients that call for route selection.
Accessibility is personal: distance, gradient, surface, heat and crowding affect travellers differently. Trace the complete route from the accommodation to the places that matter, including the return journey.
Choosing where to stay
A central seafront base reduces transport needs. Puerto Banús and eastern Marbella are separate areas, so check distances before assuming attractions are nearby.
Ask for the narrowest doorway, lift dimensions, bathroom transfer space, bed height and a step-free route to every hotel facility that will be used. Obtain important commitments in writing.
Airport transfers and local transport
Nearest airport: Málaga Airport. Road transfer is the usual airport option. Give the operator full wheelchair or scooter dimensions and confirm passenger and luggage capacity together.
Tell the transfer company whether the traveller can move into a vehicle seat or must remain in the wheelchair. Provide chair or scooter dimensions, combined weight, companion numbers and luggage details.
Mobility equipment hire
Mobility Abroad no longer accepts bookings or payments. We provide independent preparation information and links to selected providers so travellers can arrange equipment directly.
Confirm model, safe user weight, dimensions, charging, delivery, collection, damage cover and breakdown support. Match the equipment to the local terrain and the accommodation rather than selecting by price alone.
Practical local advice
Beach-club, restaurant and hotel entrances may use alternative accessible routes; contact each venue when step-free access is essential.
